LEGENDS SUN TEAM PRESENTS "A KANSAS LEGEND IN THE MAKING"
$770 Million Destination Casino & Resort Plan Provides Wyandotte County
The Best Amenities, Community Commitment and a Proven Record of Success
Kansas City, Kan. (December 11, 2007) - The Legends Sun team presented its proposed 250-acre, $770 million destination casino and resort to the Unified Government Board of Commissioners Tuesday, outlining its offer to Wyandotte County and the state of Kansas, guaranteeing "A Kansas Legend in the Making" - providing the best amenities, a solid community commitment and an experienced team of developers and casino operators, with a proven record of success.
The experienced Legends Sun team includes RED Development, LLC based in Kansas City, Missouri; Mohegan Sun, based in Connecticut and one of the most profitable gaming operations in the United States, and Olympia Gaming, LLC based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Each partner contributes vast and varied experience relevant to building and managing a successful destination resort development.
"Only the Legends Sun plan guarantees the completed development will complement, and not compete with, existing retail and entertainment venues that has made The Legends at Village West such an important regional attraction," said Dan Lowe, managing partner of RED.
"The UG also knows how we can deliver a great project on time and on budget. The projects built by the partners have met or exceeded all projections - whether in Wyandotte County, the states of Nevada, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, or elsewhere," he added.
The Legends Sun plan calls for the construction and management of a multi-faceted destination casino and resort at 110th and Parallel Parkway, adjacent to the highly successful Legends at Village West lifestyle shopping area. Legends Sun's unique retail and restaurant options will complete - complementing, not competing with - the offerings of The Legends, which draws more than 8 million visitors annually to Wyandotte County.
The Legends Sun development incorporates an expansive list of amenities, including:
- 2,000 slots
- 85 total table games, including poker
- 350 hotel rooms
- a 20,000 square foot spa and pool complex
- a championship-caliber, tournament-worthy 18-hole golf course designed by award-winning golf landscape architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. fitness center
- four championship-caliber tennis courts
- a 36,000-square-foot, 1,200-seat showroom
- 35,500 square feet of convention and meeting space, offering complete banquet and catering services - convertible to 71,500 including showroom
- 200,000 square feet of retail, dining and entertainment offerings
- 250 residential units
"Legends Sun is a forward-thinking developer with a master plan to build and promote the 250-acre site to its best advantage and maximize the UG's investment," Lowe added. "Legends Sun also is committed to giving back to our home community in more ways than just tax revenue."
Legends Sun has pledged $5 million for community use by Wyandotte County, plus a minimum $500,000 annually. In addition, upon completion of the Robert Trent Jones, Jr. golf course, the developers will launch an annual celebrity-driven Wyandotte County Golf Classic with proceeds benefiting area charities. RED currently serves as title sponsor of a similar PGA event based in Reno, NV.
The Legends Sun development will also support community-based programs that serve a diverse population and enhance community resources. That includes investing in efforts to encourage economic development as well as professional, personal and economic growth.
"We are thrilled about the opportunity of partnering with RED and Olympia on the Legends Sun project. This development offers the best in casino gaming, hotel accommodations and resort amenities. It will be an exciting and unique addition to Wyandotte County," said Mitchell Grossinger Etess, CEO for Mohegan Sun.
Garry Goett, Chairman, CEO and President of Olympia Gaming, added, "Legends Sun joins the finest partners in their related fields to create a world-class destination resort and casino in Wyandotte County, KS. We are also eager to move forward in the development of Wyandotte County's first Robert Trent Jones, Jr.-designed golf course, adding a unique, distinguishing element to our proposal."
